Everyone knows that digicams are great and you can take a ton of photos easily, and having that ability can bite you in the a$$ over time easily. So I am one of the guilty people who download their images from their digicam, and keep the given filename their camera gave them. I have a shitload of pictures I need to sort thru now, and rename, over 2 years worth :P Ive tried several programs in the past, but never found one that Im crazy about that handles batch renaming well.

Heres what I want to do. Im going to group my files by subject/event. Ill rename all the files and give it a sequence # (ex. dog-01.jpg, 02, etc) The folder for group will have the same description as the file, but have the date the images were taken (dog-20060303).

Is there a program that handles renaming the folders like this, plus renaming the files? I know theres a ton of renaming programs out there, but ive never come across one that does folders also.

Any suggestions/tips welcome. If you have a better filenaming convention, I would love to hear it. Thanks.

sorry I can't think of anything particularly good for the pc. This would be so much easier if you had a Mac. With the automator in OSX you could rename folders and files without much effort. Just something to consider if you're ever thinking about a new computer. I wish I had a mac, just waiting for the perfect one right now.

I'm pretty sure Photoshop's file browser (PS7 or later) does what you want
File -> Browse...
Then Automate -> Batch Rename...

You might want to try this out: Better File Rename (http://www.publicspace.net/windows/BetterFileRename/index.html) .

It's a demo but here's the crack for it (scroll down the page to v4.8): http://crackzplanet.com/index_1_b_2.html (http://)
