    Linux Help!!!!

im trying to get a dual boot with win xp already installed. it is on the c drive and i want to put linux on the d drive (the second 30 gigs of my 60 gig harddrive). the problem is that the computer won't start booting fromthe cd. i have the mobo set to boot from the cd first then the harddrive. i know absolutly nothing about linux accept it is suppose to be really stable and that it is free.

    a few specs:
    linux redhad 7.2 from www.linuziso.org
its an hp pavilon with a 600 mhz celeron.
    384 Mb 133 sdram
60 gig wd harddrive in 2 equal partitions

the goal: my goal is to make this a cpl counterstrice server and also make it boot to xp. i could just host counter-strike from xp but it crashes often a little ( or a lot) of help would be awsome. u can aim me and i can work on it. it is a completly seperate machine right beside the one i normally use.

Make a boot diskette. Should come with regular Distributions. I forget if there's a tool to do so on the CD itself .. There was a tool for windows for making an image for a diskette that would boot to the CD and go through the installation, etc... read a Red Hat Linux tutorial. Personally, i would use mandrake, but oh well.

he said he already had the drive partioned. and when you install Redhat it will install a boot loader for you that will allow you to pick which install you want if you want to boot into windows or linux.

You have to partition it if you haven't is what he means.

And he needs a boot disk and a boot loader (Lilo or Grub, usually comes with most distros)

did u read the first post u stupid fuck.. i said i DOWNLOADED IT. gd just think for 2 seconds b4 u make an ass of urself.

and i did look all over the cd for help but there was nothing about making a boot disk

and thankyou to all of the ppl that posted that with good information.

i think i have it figured out. hte drive was in 2 partitions and both were formated in ntfs. so when linux booted it thought all of the harddrive was full and continued booting to windows.

ok i just tried that so i guess that is not the problem

    here is an update
    c: ntfs with xp installed
the rest is raw unpartitioned space

so i guess i still need a boot disk... i will look at the posts aboveb4 i ask for more help

    again thank you

Have you even installed linux yet? If you've partitioned one side, but left the other untouched, boot from the cd, and it should do the work for you...
