I like what I'm seeing people have on here. Wish I could afford some of them. Have pics of mine up in a few.

Well here it is. Got it in my hometown before I went to school for about 20 bucks. Came with all original Shimano parts. Frame is a little torn up, but overall in good shape I like to think. Just recently got the flip-flop wheel. This summer I am hoping to get a front wheel, some brakes, a front gear and clips.

Yeah, it's awesome, I want to actually buy a legit track frame this summer after i make a little money. I love to ride and i'm glad other people on this forum do as well. I just started getting into it around august. I love riding around, it makes me feel like a kid again (even though i'm only 19). It makes you feel so free and with the price of gas these days it's going to be awesome commuting around all summer. Right now at school i only have my single speed because i don't want to let my fixie sit out in the shitty weather. Every time i get the chance i hop on my bike for a couple mile ride. When i go home ill go out and ride my fixed gear for hours. It's so great and the bike community in pittsburgh is great. I want to start playing some polo soon. How long have you been riding?

I started riding in 2005. I've never even owned a geared road bike. I would like to but my budget doesn't have room for that quite yet.

Anyways, Im interning in indianapolis this summer so I will be hitting up the velodrome as much as I can. Too bad I'm a dumbass and sold my track bars.

Oh and riding while blacked out isnt a good idea, just fyi

i decided that i want a road bike, pretty much entry-level i guess. she showed me the specialized allez, the trek 2.1 and the giant ocr 1.

i reeeeally like the specialized allez triple. does anyone know anything about this bike? it retails for 850.

i asked the woman if it would be easier to buy the parts and assemble myself (i figured it would be) but she said no.

i guess my question is, should i buy this brand new bike (anticipating 5 or so years with it) or buy an older, used model? im completely new to bikes (my last one was a huffy ironman, haha)

i realized i could search google for some reviews, and i have, but i also figured i could post in this thread and get some quality help.
Im partial to Giant just because of big Jan Ullrich. Any entry level road bike is going to be about the same so its up to you. Hopefully your shop lets you take a test ride, and you can choose the one that fits you the best.

I would just buy from a shop unless you know what to look for in an older frame.

ouch man, that looks painful. ive gone down on my side and scraped up my arms and hips, but not the face yet. Riding moderately drunk is fun, but i'd never do it if i was shit faced. One time i tried riding when i was really drunk and i could barely ride straight so i didnt mess around with it haha.

^ i sealed the deal on it just now

its a bit over what i was planning on spending, but its a good deal for the bike/parts im gonna get.

the problem is that i'm about to buy a complete bike, but i've been collecting my own parts. hopefully i can ebay or CL the parts i'll dump out of the complete bike

maybe i can start a thread in general that will make buying and selling bike parts "ok" even though we can't sell anything on this board... hmmm...

    lol damn..

hahahah my dad just told me this story about greg lamond.. i guess one time he was riding around and not going too fast and some guy passed him on one of those commuter sit super-duper upright bikes that old guys ride around in business suits and helmets right? so my dad gets into 10th gear and tries to catch up to this guy and he simple cant, pedling as fast as he can.. later he stopped by the bike shop and told the story and found out it was greg lamond...

    jus thought that was semi-funny

I'd say go with a newer Trek. Their frame tubing is all the same whether its the low end model or high end. I've got the Trek 4300 and love it.

disc brakes make all the difference as well.
    eventually.
