well, i totally built mine from parts i found scattered around the internet. check craigslist a lot. i know here bikes are really easy to get ahold of, so it should be the same in any city.

my frame is from another bike that i bought which had bad components, so, as you can see i totally changed out the parts and bought new stuff. its great. its taken me about 6 months to get this to where i want it and i have another month or two to get it perfect.

i think having a fixed gear in the city is fucking ridiculous. i ride a single speed. i just didn't want the aero brake levers. i wanted it to look more vintage, so i bought those mafac brake levers. i've never seen them before.

    cbb, what frame is that?

its a single speed. its this japanese frame that i got from bikesdirect.com.

after doing research, i found that, although it was labeled a motobecane, it isn't. motobecane usa uses these no name japanese frames.

Call me ignorant, but where are the brakes?

Or is it one of those old school, push backwards to brake kind of thing?

There are none. that bike looks to be a fixed gear, so you slow down with the slowing of your pedaling, or skid stopping, as opposed to using a actual hand brakes.

Its actually a good question i had asked my roomate (who likes to bike) about a year or so ago.

it isn't fixed gear, you just have to ride around screaming "NO BRAAAKES!!" to the people in front of you
