Interested in cracking an app yourself?

An app called Crackulous has been released that will automatically crack any legit app for you! This app is completely optional and does not need to installed to run pirated apps. You will need a jailbroken app to install and run it.

The practical use for this is that legit apps can now be pirated faster and distributed by anybody. This is useful for uploaders but negligible for downloaders.

SaladFork make Crackulous. People use Crackulous. Angel Take over. Crackulous good. We release Crackulous today.

    CRACKULOUS v.9
We at Hackulous have decided to open up the beta version of Crackulous for the entire community. If you haven't already heard about Crackulous, it's an amazing application dedicated to the iPhone community to cracking apps. Crackulous was first started by SaladFork, and now the application is being developed by Angel. We've decided to release Crackulous v.9 as an Open Beta, so anyone can try it out!

    Features:

    * Full GUI version of xCrack! No Complications!
    * Crack Applications from the App Store! Share them with the community!
    * The ONLY Application of its kind!
    * The most POWERFUL and EASIEST to use application!
    * Crack multiple apps at one time!
    * It's free! Why would we charge?

Read more at: What is Crackulous?

So where do we get it? From the Hackulous Cydia Repo of course!
    http://cydia.hackulo.us

    Known Bugs (Major):

    * You must have at least one legitimate app from the App Store
    * If any of your apps begin with a #, Crackulous will crash (Bug fix on the way)

If you have more bugs to share, tell us at: Crackulous Forum

    Issues:

    * If You cannot see Crackulous in the repo, restart your cydia (or your device) and have it update it's sources

    Kyek's FAQ
We're getting a lot of common questions in this thread -- so I posted this on page 4, but it might be better served here in the original post smile.gif

    Crackulous crashing on startup?
Many people are saying that it crashes when you have an app with a number in it. It's not necessarily numbers IN apps, it's apps that START WITH a number. This is a known bug, and it's mentioned in the original post. There should be a fix soon, so don't feel the need to delete your precious apps right away ;-). There's also a rare bug report about apps with 3 or more digits in the name causing a problem with Crackulous, but so far that's not been confirmed.

Make sure you address your crashing in the official Crackulous crashing topic.

But how do I crack apps without buying them?
You don't. Every single app that's ever been cracked has been legitimately purchased by the cracker. Part of the cracking method requires you to run the app on your iDevice before it's cracked, and the only way to do that is by buying it and downloading it legitimately. Makes you think twice before you start spamming the requests board, doesn't it? ;-)

I cracked an app but how do I get it?
Crackulous tells you exactly where to find the app once it's cracked -- all you need to do is log into your phone via SFTP (you need OpenSSH from Cydia for this). Don't know how to do that? This, my friends, is why we have a Tutorials section here at Hackulous ;-) Take some initiative and search for it!

Where do I upload the app?!?!?!?!?!1cos(0)1
If your goal is to get the app posted on Appulous (and it should be!) you'll need to upload it to a filehost. Actually, if you want your app to stick around for awhile, you'll want to upload to a few filehosts! The ones that work on Appulous are listed here. Then, if you don't already have one, register for an account at Appulo.us, verify your E-mail (see here if you have problems with that), log in, then use the "Submit an App" link at the top of Appulous.

    _____________ doesn't work.
This tells us NOTHING. Never say something "doesn't work", tell us what it's doing INSTEAD of working. Did you get an error message? Was there a crash? A weird noise? Did it ask you out on a date then admit it has herpes? You really have to tell us what's going on if you want us to fix it.

Not the easiest of processes, but there is a way to finally jailbreak the iPod Touch 2g, I just did it myself. If you aren't too comfortable with using cmd prompt I wouldn't suggest it, but there should be a gui based release in a few weeks.

    http://www.ipodtouchfans.com/forums/...d.php?t=137843

So happy I can finally can join the party

    Edit:
After goofing around for a little bit this is kind of a pain right now, you have to use an app called boot helper every time you restart your ipod. Hold off until there's an official release

When I used to have a 1g touch I thought it seemed a little slower when jailbroken, especially the boot time.

How to Jailbreak Only Firmware 2.2.1 on a 3G iPhone using Windows
    Source: iPhoneHacks

Note: To unlock you must preserve the baseband, which means you'll need to follow this guide (archived) as yell0wsn0w doesn't work on the new baseband of 2.2.1. My recommendation is to stay on Firmware 2.2. If you want to update to Firmware 2.2.1 and desire to jailbreak then proceed but if you desire to unlock also then staying with Firmware 2.2 is much easier.
Step-by-Step Guide to Jailbreak iPhone 3G running Firmware 2.2.1 using QuickPwn 2.2.5-2 (Windows)

if you want to update your iPhone 3G to firmware 2.2.1 but at the same time preserve its baseband so that you can also unlock it then you should follow our step-by-step guide to use Dev Team's PwnageTool.

But If you don't want to unlock your iPhone 3G now or anytime in the future and only want to jailbreak it to install jailbreak iPhone apps then you can update your iPhone 3G with firmware 2.2.1 using iTunes and then use QuickPwn 2.2.5-2 to jailbreak it.

Here is our step-by-step guide to jailbreak iPhone 3G using QuickPwn 2.2.5-2 for Windows users updated for iPhone firmware 2.2.1.

Some important points to note before we start:

    * Hacking your iPhone 3G could void its warranty.

    * You should NOT use this guide if you want to unlock your iPhone 3G. You should use PwnageTool as it preserves the baseband, you can checkout our step-by-step guide to use Dev Team's PwnageTool.

    * This guide is to jailbreak iPhone 3G running iPhone firmware 2.2.1.

    * This guide is for Windows users, Mac users can refer to this step-by-step guide to jailbreak iPhone 3G using QuickPwn (Mac).

Preparatory steps before jailbreaking your iPhone 3G.

    1. Please take a backup of your iPhone, refer to this post for more details.

    2. Please ensure that you have upgraded iTunes to iTunes 8.0.2.

    3. Please download QuickPwn 2.2.5-2 for Windows from any of these links and unzip its contents in a folder:

    * http://miphone.ca/iphone-dev/QuickPwn225-2.zip

    * http://www.evil-crew.de/QuickPwn-225-2.zip
    * http://daniel14.com/QuickPwn-225-2.zip

    4. Please download firmware 2.2.1 for iPhone 3G using this link.
    5. You need to install .Net Framework runtimes and associated files (if not already installed) for Quickpwn to work. You can download it from Microsoft's site.

If your iPhone 3G firmware Version is 2.2.1 (5H11) and Modem Firmware is 02.30.03 then you are ready to jailbreak your iPhone 3G, you can skip directly to "Jailbreak iPhone 3G using QuickPwn" below.

If you want to update your iPhone 3G to firmware 2.2.1 then you can follow the steps mentioned below ("Update your iPhone 3G to iPhone Firmware 2.2.1").

Update your iPhone 3G to iPhone Firmware 2.2.1:

    1. Please note this method does NOT preserve the baseband, so by updating to iPhone firmware 2.2.1 using this method will result in your iPhone 3G's baseband will also get updated from 02.28.00 to 02.30.03. Dev Team's software unlocking application yellowsn0w does NOT work with baseband 02.30.03, it only works with baseband 02.28.00.
    2. Connect your iPhone 3G to your computer via USB cable and launch iTunes and select your iPhone.
    3. Hold the SHIFT key and click the “Restore” button. iTunes will launch a file dialog for you to select the firmware file. Locate the iPhone1,2_2.2.1_5H11_Restore.ipsw file that you have downloaded in step 5 of the preparatory steps and click “Open”.
    4. iTunes will then restore your iPhone with firmware 2.2.1 which takes sometime, please wait for the process to complete.

Once your iPhone 3G is updated to iPhone firmware 2.2.1, you are ready to use the QuickPwn tool to jailbreak it.

Jailbreak iPhone 3G using QuickPwn 2.2.5-2:

    1. Launch QuickPwn from the unzipped folder to start jailbreaking your iPhone 3G.
    2. Please ensure that your iPhone 3G is connected to your computer. QuickPwn will automatically detect it and enable the blue arrow button, click it to continue.
    3. In the next screen, click browse and select the iPhone firmware 2.2.1 that you had downloaded in step 5 of the preparatory steps and click Open.
    4. QuickPwn will check if the firmware file selected is the same as the one installed on your iPhone 3G, if valid it will enable the blue arrow button, click it to continue.
    5. In the next screen, you will be prompted to install Cydia, Installer (both are preselected) and if you would like to Replace the Boot Logos. Install both Cydia and Installer as you will need it to install Dev team's unlock yellowsn0w application and also to install jailbreak apps.
    6. QuickPwn will again prompt you to ensure that your iPhone 3G is connected to your computer via USB, click the blue arrow button to continue.
    7. QuickPwn will now automatically put your iPhone into recovery mode. Once its in recovery mode you will be prompted to: Hold the Home button for 5 seconds, Hold the Home and Power buttons for 10 seconds, then release the Power button and continuing holding the Home button until your iPhone is in DFU mode.
    8. Its important that you follow the instructions carefully, if it does not work and get an error message then try again, once your iPhone 3G is in DFU mode QuickPwn will start the jailbreaking process.
    9. QuickPwn will inform you as soon as the jailbreaking process is successfully completed.
    10. After your iPhone 3G reboots, it will be jailbroken and will have Cydia and Installer apps installed and visible on your iPhone's home screen.

As always, don't forget to drop us a line to tell us how it goes.

If you have upgraded to Mac OS X 10.5.6 (or using the new MacBooks) and facing a problem then it is because the latest update prevents your Mac from recognizing iPhone in DFU mode which is important to jailbreak iPhone 3G.

The Dev team had suggested possible fixes which they have noted that one should try at their own risk:

Use a USB hub in-between the DFU device and the Mac and insert/reinsert the iPhone’s USB cable. (recommended solution)

How to Jailbreak and Unlock Firmware 2.2.1 on a 3G iPhone using Mac
    Source: iPhoneHacks

Step-by-Step Guide to Jailbreak iPhone 3G and Preserve Baseband using PwnageTool

Apple released iPhone firmware 2.2.1 couple of weeks back which included some minor bugs and improvements. The Dev Team had warned against updating to firmware 2.2.1 as it also included a baseband update which breaks the "injection hole" that they had used in their application yellowsn0w to modify the firmware which had helped to successfully unlock iPhone 3G.

They released the updated version of their PwnageTool 2.2.5 which allows users to update their iPhone 3G to firmware 2.2.1 and also jailbreak it but at the same time preserve the baseband so they can unlock their iPhone.

This step-by-step guide will show you how to use Dev Team's PwnageTool 2.2.5.

Some important points to note before we start:

    * Hacking your iPhone 3G could void its warranty. So please proceed with caution.
    * This guide is applicable for iPhone 3G users. The 1st generation iPhone users don't have to worry about preserving their baseband, they can use the QuickPwn tool.
    * This guide is applicable for all those who have iPhone firmware 2.2 or lower running on their iPhone 3G.
    * This guide cannot be used to downgrade your baseband from 02.30.03 to 02.28.00 (currently there no method away to downgrade the baseband included in firmware 2.2.1).
    * The only way to update to iPhone firmware 2.2.1 and preserve baseband is by using the PwnageTool 2.2.5. PwnageTool is only available for Mac users, so Windows users who want to unlock their iPhone 3G should either get the custom firmware created by the PwnageTool on a Mac from someone they trust or borrow their friend's Mac and follow this guide.
    * If you don't care about unlocking your iPhone 3G now or anytime in the future then you can use QuickPwn 2.2.5 for Mac and QuickPwn 2.2.5-2 for Windows. We will be updating our step-by-step guides for Mac and Windows shortly for iPhone firmware 2.2.1.
    *

If you have upgraded to Mac OS X 10.5.6 (or using the new MacBooks) and facing a problem then it is because the latest update prevents your Mac from recognizing iPhone in DFU mode which is important to jailbreak iPhone 3G then use a USB hub in-between the iPhone 3G and the Mac and insert/reinsert the iPhone’s USB cable.

Preparatory steps before Jailbreaking your iPhone 3G and preserving its baseband:
    1. Please take a backup of your iPhone, refer to this post for more details.
    2. This guide is applicable only for iPhone 3G users who have iPhone firmware 2.2 or lower running on your iPhone 3G. You can check your firmware and modem firmware(baseband) versions via Settings->General->About and look for Version and Modem Firmware.
    3. Please ensure that you have upgraded iTunes to iTunes 8.0.2.
    4. Please download PwnageToo from any of these download links.

    * http://iphone-dev.fgv6.net/PwnageTool_2.2.5.dmg
    * http://iphone.schwarzmetall.cn/PwnageTool_2.2.5.dmg

    Jailbreak iPhone 3G using PwnageTool
    7. The General settings allows you to decide the partition size (you have to increase the size of the root partition, 535 MB worked fine for us). Keep "Activate the phone" option checked if you want to unlock your iPhone or deselect it if you are using an official iPhone carrier. Keep "Disable partition wipe-out" option selected. Click the blue arrow button to continue.

    Jailbreak iPhone 3G using PwnageTool

You can now use the custom iPhone firmware created using the PwnageTool 2.2.5 to restore your iPhone 3G in DFU on either Mac or Windows by following these steps.
    1. Connect your iPhone to your Mac or PC and select your iPhone from the list of devices in iTunes.

    2. In the Summary Tab, Hold down Option and press the "Restore" button. If you are using Windows hold down Shift and press the Restore button. (This is a VERY IMPORTANT STEP as just pressing the "Restore" button will result in restoring your iPhone with the latest firmware which is firmware 2.2.1 currently, by holding down Option in case of Mac or Shift in case of Windows, allows you choose the custom iPhone firmware file.)

    Jailbreak iPhone 3G using PwnageTool
    3. You should be able to see all the older iPhone firmware files you had downloaded so far, select the custom iPhone firmware (iPhone1,2_2.2.1_5H11_Custom_Restore.ipsw file) that was created earlier using PwnageTool to restore your iPhone 3G.

    4. Once your iPhone 3G is restored, it will be jailbroken and updated with iPhone firmware 2.2.1 but the baseband will still be 02.28.00 (and not 02.30.03) so you can unlock your iPhone 3G. You can check it by going to Settings -> General -> About and looking for Version, it should be 2.2.1 (5H11) and Modem firmware should be 02.28.00.

    5. The last step is to set up your iPhone 3G from a backup.

As always, don't forget to drop us a line to tell us how it goes.

I just got mine a few days ago. 1st gen 8gb in perf condition. Used this thread to jailbreak, unlock for tmob, and install some nice apps.

    Thanks.

Only question I had was about safari and saving passwords. My school's wireless prompts for a log in and pass every time and I'd like to keep it saved...it's been annoying me. Anyone got a solution?

I want to sync music without using iTunes, is this even possible? Drag and Drop would be nice.

    Note:
    • I haven't tried any of these, so no support from me
    • You will still need iTunes to sync Applications, Contacts, Videos, etc.

    How to Take Better Photos
Source: iphonehacks (embedded links and photos at the source)
Tip to Take Better Photos with your iPhone's Camera; Also Checkout 100 Amazing iPhone Photos
    iPhone Camera

We have been critical about iPhone's 2 megapixel camera and its basic camera app and have written about iPhone apps such as Cycorder which brought video recording, Snapture which brought professional features such as Digital zoom, delay timer etc and ClearCam which turns your iPhone's 2-megapixel camera into a 4-megapixel camera to add more zing (actually megapixels) to your iPhone's camera.

But I was pleasantly surprised to see the 100 amazing iPhone photos collated by Haje Jan Kamps of Photocritic.org. They are very good. Haje has also given a cool tip on how to take better photos with your iPhone's camera.

Haje Jan Kamps of Photocritic.org who has written a book about photography sums it up quite well about iPhone's camera:
"the iPhone’s camera is pretty damn inferior compared to the current slew of camera phones out there. I had a couple of Sony Ericsson phones that had better battery life AND a far better camera (with - gasp - autofocus!) than Apple’s raprod.

And yet… it’s the first camera phone I’ve used where I’m taking photos all the damn time. It helps that the iPhone makes uploading photos to Flickr / Facebook or e-mailing them to friends very easy, and the fact that your photos are Geo-tagged for you is pretty nifty as well.

So yes, the iPhone is a rather fantastic machine overall, with a sub-par camera. That doesn’t stop people from making some damn fine artwork with it though…"

He has a cool tip for users on how to take amazing photos using iPhone's camera (in case you didn't know already as its ):
"Normally, you just tap and release the on-screen shutter button when taking a picture. Instead, try to press & hold the shutter button, frame the photo and then release the button when you’re ready to shoot."

If you are looking for inspiration then check out photograhers who have used the iPhone to take some amazing photos. Haje recommends Sionfullana for his great street photography around New York, Steve Bluestein for his fantastic abstract work and also Bananajode, and carolthome.

Here are some of my favorite photos from the collection:

    Amazing iPhone Photos 1

    Amazing iPhone Photos 1

You can checkout the rest at Photocritic.org.

After seeing these stunning photos, I must admit that we were probably too critical about iPhone's camera.

Which one is your favorite photo from this collection? I am also curious to know what you think about iPhone's camera, so please let us know in the comments below.

Install More Apps Past the Limit and Categorize Them
Source: iphonehacks (embedded links and pictures at source)
iPhone Hacks Allow you to Install More iPhone Apps on your iPhone
Hacks to Install more iPhone apps

The number of iPhone apps on the App Store is well over 23,000 and increasing by the hour. If you're like me who installs lots of applications on your iPhone, you might soon hit the 9 Home screens limit (some have probably already hit it).

That's 148 iPhone apps (16*9 = 144 iPhone app icons on the home screen + 4 iPhone app icons on the dock).

If you are looking for a hack to install more iPhone applications then I have good news for you. If you have a jailbroken iPhone, you'll be able to install more applications on your iPhone thanks to three iPhone hacks from the hacking community.

There are three easy hacks that will allow you install more iPhone applications on your jailbroken iPhone:

    FiveIrows

The first hack adds an additional row to your iPhone's home screen. This can be done by installing the jailbreak app aptly called FiveIrows. FiveIrows is a hack that can be installed from Cydia (via Touch-Mania source).

After installing FiveIrows, you'll see an extra empty row on your iPhone's home screen. You can move or install more iPhone applications to fill that empty row.

You can checkout the screenshot below to get an idea (slightly cramped but isn't too bad):
Hacks to Install more iPhone apps

    Five Column SpringBoard (FCSB):

FCSB allows you to add an extra column of iPhone app icons on the home screen. This five column springboard hack is still in development and not yet available for download directly via Cydia. If you'd like to install this hack, you'll have to install it manually.

To install Five Column Springboard, follow these steps (however with caution as its still under development):

    * Install MobileSubstrate, Ruby, MobileTerminal and Erica Utilities. All these packages can be found on Cydia.
    * Once you've installed all the above packages. Download fcsb-054.deb.
    * Transfer "fcsb-054.deb" to iPhone using SSH and put it under "/private/var/mobile".
    * Launch MobileTerminal application and type "su root"
    * Then type "alpine" for password. Followed by typing "dpkg -i fcsb-054.deb"
    * Reboot your iPhone.
    * Once it's rebooted, you'll see an extra row of iPhone application icons. To uninstall the hack, you can remove it using Cydia.

The screenshot below will give you an idea:
Hacks to Install more iPhone apps

    Five Icon Dock:

To push the number of iPhone applications to the limit, the final tweak is to add an extra icon for the dock. Five Icon Dock, developed by the developer of Cydia, allows you to add one more frequently-used iPhone app to the dock. Simply download and install "Five Icon Dock" application via Cydia.

After installing it, you will be able to drag an additional iPhone app icon to the dock as seen in the screenshot below:
Hacks to Install more iPhone apps

Combine the iPhone hacks to increase the limit of iPhone apps from 148 to 230:

As you can see from the screenshot below, you can combine all the three hacks to increase the number of iPhone applications that can be installed on your iPhone from 148 to 230 (25*9 = 225 iPhone app icons on the home screen + 5 iPhone app icons on the dock). Cool, right?
Hacks to Install more iPhone apps

I prefer to have the most frequently used iPhone apps on the first home screen and use the quick launcher app QuickGold to launch iPhone apps on other home screens, so increasing the number of iPhone apps from 20 to 30 iPhone apps (especially the ability to fit an additional iPhone app in the dock) was very useful.

    Update:

Readers have also suggested that you could use jailbreak app Categories which allows you to organize iPhone apps in appropriate folders thus allowing you to install as many apps as you want (Thanks Michael and willdta).

What do you think about these hacks? Which one do you like most? As always, please leave us a comment.

Anyone know if you can save your firmware any way, and restore it with your jailbroken stuff?

I ask, because my case is cracked and im going in get it swapped out under applecare and will be restoring it back to factory settings. I would like to not have to re jailbreak it, then install all the stuff all over again..
