plus the main use for mine is defense and home defense. it's a great thing to have a light on a gun for those situations

it's absolutely amazing. it's by far the best bargain you're gonna find. it's incredibly bright, and because it's an LED light instead of a bulb, it lasts forever.

because when it comes time to use my gun for self-defense purposes, since most self-defense shootings occur at night, i don't want to have to fumble around with a separate flashlight. i want both hands on the gun.

i've never actually seen anyone shoot with it at the range. i did when i first got it just because i wanted to try it out (not too surprisingly, it reduces muzzle flip and makes follow-up shots slightly easier, actually). however, the gunpowder very quickly dirties up the lens on the light.

I dunno...all the pistol training I've had has advised the Harries technique. I mean one of the basic rules of firearms is to keep the gun pointed in a safe direction (don't point it at things you aren't going willing to shoot) and I think using the GUN as light contradicts that. I mean it may be perfectly fine to have a light mounted on a gun, I've just never personally used it and don't feel comfortable with it.

    that's what I use

A good read (and awesome flashlights that I use)

see, the thing is, even with that method, you're still pointing the flashlight in the same direction as the gun. unless you're holding the gun by your side while you're pointing the flashlight in front of you (which would be stupid and defeat the purpose of even having the gun), i don't see how you're gaining anything over the gunlight. in fact, you'll be losing a great deal of accuracy when it comes time to actually pull the trigger, especially with double- or triple-taps.

I didn't say it was 100% right fangsy, I just personally haven't used or would like to use a light on my pistol. A rifle or shotgun may be a different story

and you know you want go buy a surefire now

yeah definitely with a rifle or shotgun (you don't have much choice). really, though, as most things are in the gun world, you gotta do what makes you comfortable.

i have heard amazing things about that surefire. i definitely don't doubt the quality of it.

shooting is 100% results based...so if you can effectively get done with your mounted light as I can with my flashlight, then we both win ha ha

I have the E2D LED Defender and I looove it

i have a surefire 6p. i used to have it attached to my rifle (when i had one) and i liked it a lot. although the "never point the weapon at anything you do not intend to shoot" rule does make sense for not having the weapon also be the light.

This is specifically for California, laws will vary from state to state.
    (1) Have father/mother/grandfather/grandmother "gift" you the handgun
    (2) Print this http://www.ag.ca.gov/firearms/forms/pdf/oplaw.pdf
    (3) Fill out $19.00 check payable to:
    Department of Justice
    Bureau of Firearms - OL
    P.O. Box 820200
    Sacramento, CA 94203-0200
    (4) Mail filled out form and $19.00 check to the above address, a week or two later you will get an acknowledgment with your name, make, model, and serial number of the handgun mailed to ya. Keep this for your records...

Most weapon-mounted lights will have enough "side-spill" that you will not have to point directly at your "target" to illuminate it. The only legitimate con to a weapon-mounted light would be that your adversary has a "bright white" aiming point... but I think the pros outweigh the cons in this case. I am not about to sacrifice my grip on a handgun (Using Harries, FBI, or Rogers techniques) just so I can hold a light separately in my weak side hand.

You are exactly right here, different strokes for different folks.

Amen, great products, although I may be a little biased...

Last shoot, we went out and put some rounds into some SureFire flashlights...

62 grain 5.56 round; Unsurprisingly, in and out like a hot knife through butter.

115 grain 9mm round; Stopped inside the light.

Anyway, list is long but here are the blasters worth mentioning:
    M&P45

    AR15

    1911

Cheetah (Originally grandfather's, then father's, and now mine)

    870

And here is a video from Sunday; More preparation for the zombie apocalypse.
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tT_hhUMUmXU

Christ that is a long post.
