Yeah I don't need anything bigger. My dad has a .270 I can use if I feel like I need to take out an Elk.

This thing is plenty for antelope and deer. Besides the ammo is a lot cheaper. I don't need anything bigger, no reason. I love my .243. I have a nice compound bow for anything bigger than a deer. I do need a pistol though... Besides aren't .243's potentially faster than a 30-30? Obviously they don't have as much brute force, but I think the hydrostatic shock from the .243 is plenty for what I need it for.

.243 will hit around 3200-3500 fps with a 100gr bullet. 55gr rounds can exceed 4200fps.
30-30 won't get much over 2500, even with a hot round.

yep that's what I thought, which is why I love my .243 so much! hahah

I need to pick up a gun that is cheaper to shoot. Smallest caliber rifle I have is 30-30... pain in the pocketbook. My .308 isn't any cheaper...
yeah this is my first high powered rifle, I did a lot of research before I got it too.

Yeah I considered a .223 WSSM except I wanted something for coyotes and deer. Neither of those would have been enough for a deer(ethically).

But right now I'm thinking about a Mosin-Nagant(not for coyotes just another gun), does anyone have any experience with these? I just want one cause they are cheap and the ammo is cheap too and supposedly pretty reliable.

Yeah I'm pretty sure that would destroy the pelts though.

M203?? No really, ar-15 w/ the right equipment would be just right, they sell them around here already tricked out w/ a scope and necessary furniture.

Here's what you need exactly, but with a 4 power scope

my dad won't let me get an assault rifle while I live at home. I kind of agree with him, it's a bit over kill for hunting, don't you think? I just love bolt actions because it makes the sport that much more interesting. Being able to fire off shots on a semi-auto takes away a lot of the fun. I've also heard park rangers will practically treat you like a felon if you have one for hunting too. I see them at the shooting range all the time, but I don't think they are made for hunting IMO.

Oh I have nothing against open sights if that's your thing. This .243 was my first scoped rifle. XD

I took the .243 to the range today. First three shots were in a 1" group at 100 yards.

    Shooting good feels good man.

There was an article in the Philadelphia Inquirer today (Front Page) about releasing coyotes in the park to try and cull the deer population. I have a feeling that would fail, but in turn, give me one more thing to hunt.

Apparently not, because all of the animal rights activists are the ones that wanted to release the coyotes. If they were to wander on my property I would just shoot them instead. Not really a fan of having coyotes in a residential area. The farm in Arkansas is another story.

jumping on this bandwagon, grab a saiga 7.62x39, this way you don't burn yourself on the barrel trying to handgrip and you know the gun wasn't made in 1970.

I already got a gun, but yeah it doesn't matter when a gun is made if it's well taken care of. Guns are made to last many generations. I've got a Nagant from 1944 and it shoots just fine.

That's terrible, I don't even understand how that could happen unless they have no idea what they are doing.
