    Going to Chicago in August

I'm only going to be there for a few days in mid August, can anyone tell me some hot spots to go check out? We are going to be staying close the the Navy Pier. I'm very excited about going. Also what are some good restaurants around town?

The main stretch of downtown is Michigan Ave. That's what's most famous. There are museums south on Michigan Ave. (probably about 1.5 miles south of where you'll be). There are a bunch of ritzy stores that are fun to go into north on Michigan Ave. There are bars all over the place, and some places are open until 4am or 5am. I'd eat at Billy Goat Tavern. It's pretty famous for its burgers. Go to the Signature Lounge. It's a bar on the 96th floor of the Hancock Building. It's almost as tall as the Sears Tower (now called Willis Tower); you can only get to floor 103 of the Sears Tower.

Make sure you aren't planning on driving around downtown. You'll wanna park and then either walk or take public transportation (primarily the L probably). Driving is an absolute nightmare in downtown Chicago. I had a pedometer built into my last phone, and on one Saturday alone (from about 10am-4am), I walked around 13 miles. Make sure you have some good comfy shoes.

Hm, I was there two years ago for a conference, but here's what I remember-- as Fangs said, Michigan Avenue is probably the most famous strip to walk on. If you want deep dish pizza, I remember I went to Lou Manalti's and Giordano's.

Cloud Gate is always a good touristy place to go-- it's that bean shaped sculpture designed by Anish Kapoor. It's in Millennium Park; you probably shouldn't miss it.

Garrett's Popcorn is apparently pretty famous too. It's expensive, but hey, it's a tourist attraction as well.

I wish I could contribute more, but my memory is failing me.

Yeah, definitely go to wither Lou Manalti's or Giordano's. I think Giordano's is the best pizza place in Chicago. Be sure to get deep dish.

I know I'm biased but I think Chicago is one of the most enjoyable cities. Weather may be a little extreme. When its hot, its hot. When its cold, its damn cold. Right now I am sitting here and its 90 degree with a 66% humidity (which makes a difference no matter what anyone else says)

Some places I enjoy in chicago:

Millers Pub, right near millennium park. I hear they have good ribs.

millenium park - Check out the bean.

Navy Pier has fireworks every Wednesday and Saturday

If you are coming to chicago I highly suggest you try the original Mr Beef italian beef. I like mine with extra juice. 666 North Orleans Street, Chicago, IL 60654-3916

If you can't make it there I'm sure you can find a portillos. Which IMO is good but I prefer mr beef.

THeres a few areas with segway tours which I have not tried but I imagine its pricy.

Also there are a lot of free concerts during the summer. (Chicago park district website has a list)

There are plenty of things to do here.

Which tower would be best to see the sunset? Hancock or Willis?

I was going to suggest Venetian Night but apparently it's been cancelled this year? What's up with that.

Lollapalooza Aug 6-8, but that's sort of an all day thing.

Air and Water show is on Aug 14th and 15th

India Independence Parade is Aug 14. Might sound weird to be celebrating India's independence, but you'll see a ton of culture and craziness. That's far up on the northside though so you'll do a little bit of traveling.

Maxwell street market. They shut down a few streets in the south loop every sunday morning and sell random shit

Summer Dance - on thur-sun grant park gets dancing/music from different parts of the world.

I'm a nerd so I enjoy places like the Lincoln Park Zoo and the museums.

If you're doing pizza I'd suggest Giordanos.

Hotdogs - Goto the weiner circle and ask for a chocolate milkshake. It's $20 but trust me, you want a chocolate milkshake.

I plan on taking my girlfriend on a river cruise while I'm there, they have a couple that are 90min long. You get a good view of Chicago from what I see. It looks like a nice city, I'm excited to go. I wish I could spend more time there. I'm only going to be there Saturday and early Sunday, then I fly back just in time to go to work. I get to get off the plane and go straight to work, that will be interesting.

Well I'm flying out to Chicago on Thursday morning. I'm very excited about going, my girlfriend and I have a lot planned so far. There are a couple things left to decide on. We are thinking about going to a nice steak house on Saturday night. What are some good places to go get steak?
