i was just drunkenly talking shit to usARMY duder (poorly), but no, they don't sound similar at all.

an arty shell gets inserted in the end of the cannon before it gets closed and fired, a mortar has its round dropped in through the barrel at the top.

similar result (excluding scale) but different ways of getting to that result.

mortars make more kind of like a thump whoosh sound, where as an artillery cannon is a loud ass bang.

Guns are like tourniquets; not often useful but when you need them, you need them now and nothing else will suffice.
Leonidus should have brought 600 Spartans.

I sleep with my HK USP .45 and Mossberg 590 near my bed, and a Beretta 96 near the door. Gotta love Texas gun rights

In the movie, wasn't the prosecutions case built on the fact that he ran after the guy and killed him outside of his own property ( Baseball bat to the head from what i remember). Im sure there's a huge difference between shooting a robber in your own house and chasing him outside and shooting him. What happens if the dude hurt your wife or your kids can you still chase him down and give him a beating?

nope. And yes he did follow the guy out and beat him on the front lawn.

Which is why I would have put a knife in his hand at that point, saying he chased me outside and I defended myself.

depends on who is shooting the gun
the guy that taught our hunters safety course could hold a cup in his hand let go grab his gun and shoot a hole through it

so he learned a trick? that doesn't apply to all situations, especially when he isn't the one dropping the guy with the knife, nor knowing if the guy with the knife is going to drop straight down or move left, etc.

Also doesn't factor the fear and adrenaline when a real life or death situation is really happening to you at the time
