What kind of Shotgun was Terry Crews firing in The Expendables?

That gun was a monster. Any idea on what kind of gun that was or was it something customized? I thought it was an MPS AA-12 but I'm no kind of gun expert. Does it really have anywhere near that kind of destructive power?

Also, what does something like that cost, or can you even buy a gun like that?

The AA-12 has never made it to full production. Semi-auto shotguns are all over the place. If you're looking for another magazine-fed gun, check out the Saiga 12. Unconverted models run a little over $500 for an honest buy. Obviously, you're going to be limited to semi-auto, but S12's do everything that an AA-12 would do, and they're actually manufactured on a regular basis.

Saying the Saiga-12 is everything the AA-12 is, is like saying the SKS is the same as an AK-47. Yes they shoot semi auto, and yes they are both magazine fed 12 gauge shotguns. But the AA-12 is ten times the gun that a Saiga is. The Saiga is a good gun don't get me wrong, but its not in the same league as an AA-12.

...How is it 'ten times the gun' of the Saiga? The AA-12 is defunct, it's not in mass production and the design has been bought and sold multiple times over to various companies trying to get it off the ground. The saiga 12 is manufactured by Izhmash primarily for small arms equipping for the Russian military. The design is combat effective and considered standard equipment for plenty of combat zones. The saiga 12 also has better form factor and parts interchangeability with plenty of various AK platforms. How exactly are you measuring 'gun leagues' or 'ten times the gun' standards?

I view the AA-12 as the desert eagle of shotguns. It's a flashy bulky piece of equipment that looks menacing to people that haven't seen a drum magazine with large bore rounds in them before. Hence why it's in a ton of movies and videogames. There's a reason nobody actually wants to make them in large supply, though.

This can be said of the Saiga as well, minus the drum magazine. I can tell that you are a Kalashnikov fanboy so you may not see the flaws, seeing as how they are the same flaws that are seen with the AK.
Poor iron sight design. No bolt-hold-open after the last round. Lousy trigger mech.

Also the AA12 hasn't been mass produced because it hasn't been given a defense contract yet. It would be stupid to make thousands of guns only for the DoD to say "no thanks" and be stuck with a bunch of guns that you can't sell.

Both guns are nice, but both suffer their own flaws.

I don't 'fanboy' about firearms designs, I appreciate good designs and take note of bad ones. It hasn't gotten a contract in almost 2 decades because nobody wants it. It doesn't perform better than any offering Mossberg or Benelli brings to the defense contract table. If the things were so great, then it wouldn't take them so many years to find any significant backing for it.

my understanding is that the factor there would be an explosive chemical reaction in the bullet itself, rather than being a gun specific issue. No?

Well yes, I would suppose so. The thing is though, good luck getting your hands on something like that, but point taken.
