Yeah, the Marines do pull ups. About those 3 other branches though.

Marines do pull ups for their PT test. Doesn't mean the other branches don't. My unit was Monday-Wednesday-Friday cardio and the other days were push ups, pull ups, rope climb, etc.

Doing push ups still didn't cause this kid debilitating shoulder injuries. Being hunched over with his hand and wrist extended for long periods of time, sure.

Oh my lord, dude. Your antecdotal "I have skinny legs but my push-ups didn't cause me problems" just makes you sound retarded. "This didn't happen to me but it happened to someone else? Impossible!"

Reading comprehension FTW. My postural imbalances, as people have pointed out, coupled with the lack of balance in my training, has led to issues. You're done, you lost, you don't know what you're talking about.

You're a fucking idiot. You hurt yourself because you were some neck beard hunched over a desk with a mouse in your hand for hours, not because you did exercise. Either way, I don't care. These forums are basically on fumes now anyways. Keep plugging away in this "fitness" thread.

Well I fucked my back up a few months ago and before that in november. I'm taking it slow, my diet has been on point, and recently just nailed 225x10x1 on barbell rows then in the same day 275x5x1 on flat barbell bench press. No deadlifts or back squats though. Maybe next year. I'm trying to work on my cardio but I'm not sure what direction to take with that.

How are all you guys hurting yourselves? Pay attention to what you're doing. One step forward, two steps back isn't progress. (Knock on wood). Get in hypertrophy work, don't go heavy all week long, don't lift that movement if you're sore, eat more, do crossfit! What the fuck!

knock on wood, but i haven't had a lifting-related injury since i started working out. the closest i got was that i tweaked my back doing deads maybe 6 months ago, but i was back to 100% within like a week, so it wasn't anything serious. the second something starts to hurt or if my form breaks down, i stop doing what i'm doing and move on.

been a while since i posted a video. my current program has some AMRAP stuff. today, i hit 10x345 on deads, which should put me around 450lbs for a 1RM. felt solid. form broke down on the last rep, so i stopped, but i'm really happy.

Eh, my lower back issues have been a long time coming and I finally just gave into the fact that at 38, the degenerative issues in my spine coupled with a minor bulge and herniation in 2 of my discs in my lower back were going to beat out and what not. It's just not worth it trying to lift what I was able to 10 years ago with the slightest mis-step in form causing pain and possible injury. I went to my ortho, got the MRI, talked about it and I'm fine with it. I won't ever pick up more then 95 to 115 lbs from the floor in a deadlift motion again, but I'm still able to train to a level that I enjoy with results that are tangible, which is really all that matters. I guess 8 years in the service and 10 years wearing a belt caught up with me, oh well.

sorry to hear that man. my mom has extremely advanced osteoperosis. her bones are literally crumbling in places. it's got me super paranoid, and i use that as serious motivation for lifting in case it's hereditary. i figure the stronger i can get my muscles/bones/ligaments/tendons now, the better off i'll be later.

Lifting is definitely good for bone density. And I'm not really upset by it, it's actually kind of a relief. I don't need to stress the fuck out over the fact that I was tweaking my back with a 135 power clean.

I guess when you deadlift 455 for a double @ 170 then your ego gets a bit inflated.
