    Chromebook questions

My mother bought a chromebook about 3 months ago and she gave it to me since I was computerless for a while. I'm definitely going through an adjustment period and most notably I have two big issues:

    1. HBO NOW. I just downloaded this on my iphone and tried to access to watch game of thrones today. It doesn't work with the chromebook browser. Is there any work around for this?

    2. WD MyBook. Doesnt appear like there is a way to access my files on my WD MyBook Live Duo. Does anyone know of any solutions?

Before you ask, yes I googled both and couldn't find any decent ways to rectify these issues.

I haven't tried HBO GO. I'm trying to use HBO NOW, which is the new program that came out and is completely separate from the HBO GO product.

I have a shitty Toshiba Chromebook from like 6 months ago. I'm not sure the exact model number.

    Checked - http://www.reddit.com/r/chromeos/com...on_chromebook/ ?

I know you said you googled but seems like there are some workable solutions on here, although they sound super annoying.

I'm not sure why the login functionality doesn't work - make sure you have javascript enabled in chrome, I mean it should be doing that by default on a chromebook. I'd open up developer tools and see if any errors are getting thrown in console - should be available by pressing F12 or using the menu at the top right hand corner of chrome.

Once you open up developer tools navigate over to the console tab, refresh the page and try logging in - see if any errors are getting thrown in the console. Try going straight to - https://www.hbonow.com/sign-in/ and logging in and then watching that console. Also if you got to the network tab and enable network debugging you should be able to see the content of the HTTP requests between the chrome client and server in case the problem is there - although I doubt it.

Looks like they're using a flash player, so make sure that's up to date, but I see mostly HTML other than that, the login on the website is using HTML5 markup. I'd make sure your version of chrome is up to date too as well as although I'm pretty sure a chromebook shipped six months ago would support html5.

Actually, after reading through that reddit thread more, looks like the real problem is with the - https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/...the_user_agent

So what they're suggesting is that you spoof your user agent to make the HBO go website think you're visiting from a windows OS and not a chromium OS. Actually pretty smart - guess that's why you're not supported atm.

GL if you have any trouble PM me and I can help.

Edit - reading even further looks like you're SOL, they don't support chromeos so even if you get through the login debacle you won't be able to watch anything. I suggest doing what the last poster suggested and installing a linux distro on your chromebook via - https://github.com/dnschneid/crouton (https://www.linux.com/learn/tutorial...k-with-crouton) If I used my chromebook more I'd do this. In fact I might do that this weekend just for shits and giggles.

thanks for the recommendation guys...i might dive into this in the future for fun but unfortunatley don't have time to do it now and when i do have time I won't need it. However, I definitely will bookmark this for future reference.

Does anyone have recommendations on the WD my book issue?
