California's gun laws are ridiculous. I got arrested in San Bernardino county because my gun and clip weren't in separate locked compartments. ie. One in the glove box and one in the trunk.

"in spirit" this makes some sense. I'm fairly certain that "in practice", in CA, it will not.

It would have been nice if they spent a little more time defining things. I mean, a gun sitting in a nightstand drawer in the home of a bachelor while he is at home is "secured" - but I doubt the courts would see it that way. This smells a lot like some of the transport laws in NJ that are really asinine

How long ago was that? I have been under the impression you can store loaded mags in same case as gun provided the mags could not be in the gun itself. Calguns has some good case law on that. @dirtyJ right?

The official reason you were arrested was because you had something in the glove box. A glove box is specifically delineated in the penal code as being insufficient storage for anything firearm related. You can absolutely keep loaded mags in the case with your gun as long as the gun itself is unloaded and everything is inside of a "locked container." A trunk counts, a gym bag does not, locking center console sometimes counts if it's sturdy enough. A standard tupperware case like a Glock or Springfield XD comes in is fine as long as it's locked up in such a way that you can't get in to it without fully unlocking the lock. Bad laws = bad arrests. You should have just been slapped on the wrist and let go, but in San Bernardino you had no chance.

    yeah, appeals have already started.

I just think it is shitty that the council just gets to vote on this on their own.

There's also the whole Heller decision where they specifically struck down what was essentially the same exact law in D.C.
